Summer music festivals have been the birthplace of some of the most famous hairstyles in recent years and this trend doesn't look like it will be stopping any time soon. The 2013 trend of flower garlands has been and gone and we're excited for what's to come this year. The big news for this year's festival look is space buns. Space buns were a massive hit at this year's Coachella where many celebrities were spotted rocking the look. It's a style that's sure to follow us through this summer's festivals right the way across the globe. We've also spotted braids, top knots styled with messy buns and completed with headscarves coming to the fore so far this festival season.

These stunning looks can be found emblazoned by the likes of Selena Gomez, Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone. They're all completely workable looks for everyone to attempt. So, we've collated some of our favourite festival looks to try out this summer season.

The Shag

You should always start your festival experience with squeaky clean hair and a look like The Shag, which is making a massive comeback this year. It's a retro look that can be worn for a couple of days with the help of a few squirts of dry shampoo and a shine spray to add some glossiness to your locks. It's an amazing look for people with medium to short length hair, or for people looking to revitalise long hair with a new look. Think Chrissie Hynde, Debbie Harry or Jennifer Aniston circa The Rachel in the mid-90s. It can even be styled to suit longer layers, such as Sienna Miller or Claudia Schiffer.

Boho Chic

Boho chic is a big player for festival hair this year. Think tousled tendrils with a few small braids to add texture, drama, and some bohemian magic to your look. It's a great look to follow big bouncy curls, brush through, add some tiny plaits and you're all set to rock out in front of the headline act for that day. Boho chic is a very versatile look which can be mimicked by people with most hair lengths. The look has been seen on celebs like Amber Heard and Cara Delevigne.

Braid it up

This is a cheeky way to save your hair game if you're nearing the end of your festival experience. Braids can disguise tired and greasy hair. The beauty of hair braids is that it is a completely adaptable method that promises an amazing finish. Whether you decide to pull all of your hair into one single braid, a fishtail plait or rock the braid halo, you're sure to draw plenty of the right sort of attention!

Upgrade your shade

There is no better way to get into the festival frame of mind than adding a splash of colour into the mix. Nothing quite says festival hair like pastel colours. These shades are more suited to those with lighter hair colours as they will stand out more. If you don't fancy having baby pink or baby blue hair permanently then you can still join in with the pastel fun with spray in hair glitter or even pastel coloured spray in hair chalk.

If you prefer a bolder look then try green hair. Green hair is brilliant as it can be rocked by brunettes as well as blondes. If you want a really bold look then try spray chalking a rainbow into your hair for the most inspiring festival hair look.

Top off your festival with a top knot

Alternatively, top knots, which are still big news on the fashion scene, are also a great way of hiding tired, dirty locks. You can style it sleek like or go for a messier, more relaxed look like Kendall Jenner did at last year's Coachella. Top knots also come in handy if the rain comes and you're attempting to stay dry!
