Curly hair is amazing. It’s bouncy, natural and flawless.

But, at times, it can be a pain. Especially if you want to enjoy smooth, straight locks without damaging your hair.

Don’t worry, you don’t need a trip to the salon or your own styler to straighten your hair. We’ve got you covered with these easy ways to drop the frizz and get that razor-sharp straight look.

1. Use cold water to rinse your hair

We’re not putting this one in to torture you. We promise.

Cold water actually helps keep your hair smooth and flat. That’s because the cold water helps close the hair cuticles around your head.

If you’re blow-drying your hair, make sure you finish your blow-dry with a blast of cold air for the same effect.

2. Don’t wash your hair every day

Speaking of hair care, it’s also a good idea not to wash your hair every day.

If you shampoo your hair every day, you’ll strip it of its natural oils. Without these oils, you’ll lose the shine and be more prone to hair damage as you style.

Over time, your hair will begin looking less greasy too. But in the meantime, dry shampoo is your friend.

3. Don’t forget the heat protection spray!

Straightening your hair with flat irons means a lot of heat on your hair.

We don’t need to tell you that heat is bad news for your hair. Fortunately, you can prevent the majority of the damage and keep your hair smooth and shiny with a proper heat protection spray.

4. Make sure your hair is completely dry before you style

Whether you choose to blow-dry or leave your locks drying overnight, you need to make sure it's completely dry before you style.

Otherwise, you could risk a lot of damage to your hair, drying it out and leaving it burnt and brittle. Not the look you want.

5. Start small and be patient

If you’ve got a lot of curls, getting them all straightened to perfection is going to take some time.

But don’t give up!

Start small, and separate your hair into small sections, roughly an inch wide. Then, slowly run the flat irons through your hair. This will help ensure that you don’t miss a single strand and can get those perfect, straight locks.

It can be a chore, but it’ll be worth it. Trust us.

Once you’ve got your curls, it would be a shame to let them go to waste!

So, finish with a shine or finishing spray. Just don’t overdo it. Even the smallest amount is enough to add shine and make sure you’re turning heads with your hair.

For even distribution, spray a small amount onto your brush and evenly brush it through your newly straightened hair. Tad-ah!

By following these tips, you should be ready to embrace gorgeous straight hair that’s red-carpet ready but for properly tailored advice to exactly your hair type, we always recommend coming in for a free chat with one of our expert stylists.
